FLSA Status: Full-time/Non-exempt (Based on a 32-hour work week)
Hours: Four days per week, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM, including weekend hours (occasional additional shifts as needed)
Starting Salary: $15/hour

Organization Overview:
Since its establishment through an Act of Congress in 1964, the National Aviation Hall of Fame (NAHF) proudly honors, celebrates, and shares the vision, innovation, skill, and bravery of the national heroes who have contributed to our nation’s aerospace legacy. With 263 premier air and space pioneers enshrined, the NAHF remains committed to preserving and promoting its enduring legacy. The NAHF’s Heritage Hall and Education Center (HHEC), nestled in the “Birthplace of Aviation,” Dayton, Ohio, welcomes nearly 400,000 visitors annually to celebrate our Enshrinees, their achievements, and their profound impact on the evolution of aviation, from early flight to space exploration. Recent enhancements to the HHEC include the addition of an interactive theater and the Joe Clark Innovation Lab. Our commitment to accessible aviation and aerospace education led to the development of Discovering Flight: Learning with the NAHF, a comprehensive education program for grades PreK-6, in partnership with ThinkTV/PBS. This standards-aligned curriculum has reached over 6,000 classrooms and 200,000 students across Ohio and beyond. Learn more at nationalaviation.org.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and coordinate our team of volunteers, ensuring a positive and enriching experience for all.
  • Proactively recruit new volunteers to expand our network of aviation enthusiasts and supporters.
  • Open and close Heritage Hall daily, maintaining a welcoming and organized environment for visitors.
  • Support the Innovation Lab and interactive exhibits with routine maintenance, preventative upkeep, and light cleaning.
  • Facilitate engaging educational activities, guided tours, and field trips for classrooms and summer camps.
  • Develop captivating and shareable social media content tailored to our target audience.
  • Provide essential support to the office staff as required.
  • Fulfill additional duties and responsibilities as agreed upon.

Qualifications:

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with staff and volunteers and engaging individuals from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and coordinate a diverse team of volunteers.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail to ensure seamless office operations.
  • Flexibility to work regular weekend hours and occasional evenings
  • Tech-savvy 
  • Volunteer in museums, schools, or non-profits; museum or gallery teaching experience preferred
  • Deep commitment to advancing inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility
  • Must be able to thrive in a multi-tasking and changing work environment and have the initiative to undertake and complete projects accurately, on deadline, and at times with minimal supervision
  • Knowledge of best and current practices in museum/community education, interpretation, visitor study, and audience research a plus
  • Knowledge of aviation, aerospace, and aviation history a plus
  • Knowledge of American Sign Language and/or multilingual a plus 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required; a bachelor’s degree is preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • BCI/FBI background check required.
