Start Early Planning Your Aviation Journey

The path to a career in aviation, aerospace, or STEM starts long before a first flight lesson or classroom experiment. At the National Aviation Hall of Fame, we want to help students—and their families—plan early for education, training, and career opportunities. Starting in grade school can make a big difference!

Why Planning Early Matters

  • Set Goals: Early planning helps kids understand what courses, skills, and experiences they’ll need for future careers.
  • Build a Foundation: Math, science, and technology skills gained in elementary and middle school prepare students for high school STEM programs and beyond.
  • Financial Readiness: Starting a savings plan, learning about scholarships, and exploring funding options makes aviation and STEM careers more accessible.

Steps to Get Started

  • 01) Explore Careers:  Introduce kids to different aviation and aerospace careers—pilots, engineers, air traffic controllers, astronauts, and more. Encourage curiosity and research.
  • 02) Plan Academics: Focus on math, science, and technology from an early age. Encourage participation in STEM clubs, robotics, or flight simulation programs.
  • 03) Start a Savings Plan:  Consider opening a small savings account or investment plan for education. Even small contributions now can grow over time.
  • 04) Look for Scholarships and Programs:  Many organizations offer scholarships, grants, and youth programs for students interested in aviation. Start a list and track deadlines early.
  • 05) Connect with Mentors:
Networking with pilots, engineers, and aviation professionals—even virtually—can provide guidance, encouragement, and inspiration. The NAHF can help!
